I have had several external hard drives that, from time to time will come up with the name of -1, ie the name of the drive will be "my files" and for some reason it will change to "my-files-1" I have run disk util and drive genius on the drive to see if something will fix the name so it will change back to normal. Another thing I have noticed is it will sometimes also show up as the original "my-files' drive with out the -1. Just wondering if anyone else has see this and if they have an answer as to why. On side issue, sometimes some of the .mpv files I have created will stop working for seemingly no reason. I will create the file and I know it works, them a couple of months later it'll stop working saying it's an invalid file format. This has happened on several different drives internal and external. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

If the disk has the same name as one already mounted, the OS will append -1, -2, etc. to the name.

Make sure to give unique names to all your disks, unmount them, remount them, and no more numbers will be appended to your drive names.

I've been seeing this occasionally.

I hook up a *lot* of "Macintosh HDs" to my machine. (Really people, feel free to rename your drive...) Every so often there will be *no* sign of a Macintosh HD in the GUI, but it's there in the terminal in /Volumes.

Looking forward to Friday.
