I've actually never purchased and installed a new OS as a mac owner. I've only ever used the OS installed with the computer in the first place.

So does Snow Leopard default to simply upgrading your OS while leaving all other files intact? Or do I have to choose this preference?

Thanks.

Yep, Snow Leopard acts as an upgrade to your system rather than a fresh install. All your files and applications will be intact.

Awesome! I still may wait a minute or two as the apparent heat issues are ironed out, whether they are real or illusory. The speed upgrade seems to be very real, however.
