Hi there.
I recently updated to snow leopard and I must say it was a smooth transition except for this bug of the downloads folder.
For some reason it cannot refresh the icons.
The icons on a subfolder is a given that they won't show up, but I also noticed that the icons on the main folder not subfolders start to deteriorate over time. So even though I can see them at the beginning after a half hour work they will stop working.
Anyone else noticed this behavior?
Here's a screengrab for all of you to clearly understand what I'm talking about.
UPDATE: I just noticed that I have a similar problem with the applications folder. I usually launch applications through spotlight so that's why I didn't notice before.
When I'm in list view and I scroll through the programs the icons take a good 10-20 seconds to show up whereas before it was instantaneous.
That is really strange.

I have the same issue. Glacially slow to load the icons. Pathetic beta quality OS.

Well, with icons now 512 x 512 they are larger and it's going to take some extra time for them to load. I've never seen it take more than a second, though.

Do you have the same problem in list view (instead of the grid)?

The list view seems to not have any problems. Icons load just fine. Which makes it even more strange!!
Chabig, it's not like they're loading slowly, they just don't load at all!!
And it seems to be random when that happens.

had the same issue. i removed a 863MB flv (flash-video from youtube) file from the download-folder. instantly my previews were back.
it seems like it takes a long time to calculate previews from large video files. i think all other previews have to wait while this takes place.

I have several 700+ MB files in some media folders. If I let it stay open until the previews are loaded, it'll keep them next time. I assume it caches the previews.

That's an interesting hypothesis. I think you're right.
