is it a good idea to wipe my macpro and use this developer version of SL, on my mac pro? is it = to the retail version or no?

It's not the retail version, has plenty of bugs, and cannot be updated. The retail version isn't expensive, so go buy it.

Agreed, I believe that build was released at WWDC and is many builds behind the final release. Besides, it's only $29 for the full thing

It can be updated.

And I'm guessing that if the OP could at some point afford a Mac Pro he can cough up $29.

Even if you can install 10.6.1 on top of 10A380, it's highly inadvisable.
