what i mean is, i know the key commands for screenshots. but...what if i want a picture of a window that stretches beyond the screen? ie my applications window is too long to fit on my 13" macbook screen, but i'd like an image of the whole window.

way to do that?

thanx!

cmd shift 4, then spacebar, then click the window you want.

That's a nice tip. I'll have to remember that.

I've long tried to take a slightly different window shot - to capture the entire window space without the scroll limitation. ie - if you had a monitor of unlimited size, you could stretch the window until the scroll bars vanished. Useful for example if you want a screen shot of a long thread in your browser window. The manual solution is to scroll, take screen shot, repeat as needed until you have it all. Then stitch the shots together in PS.

If there is a screen capture command that captures the window fully rendered, I haven't found it yet.

yeah, that'd be useful. A workaround would be to use a custom print page with a crazy length, 70+ inches, then print to pdf. Convert to png or whatever and you have a single image showing everything.

am surprised there isn't an easy way to do this. didn't the mac once have a 'print window' option (or did i make that up??) you could then open print, and save as pdf.

i've done that stitching thing a few times (sloppily, just images overlaid in preview).

anyone know of a shareware or freeware app to capture an entire window??

Print Window appears to only work with Finder windows.

Haven't tried it with other apps besides web browsers but for those, Voila can do it. This is a capture from AMC Mad Men website, apologies for the quality, Voila does better but I wanted the file size to be sort of small.
