on your brother's MBP, turn on dvd/cd sharing.

with them both connected via ethernet, they should form a self-contained network and you should be able to see it and perhaps install that way.

Do you not have an external drive or usb flash drive (~ 8 GB) available? Both of those are suitable to copy the DVD to then boot your MBP from for an OS X install.

DVD sharing won't work for installs unless the target is a MBA.

If you don't have any external drives, make an image of the install DVD. Then copy the image over to your MacBook. Use Disk Utility to create a new ~8GB partition and clone the image over to this partition. You can now boot from this partition and install SL. When you're done, delete the partition.

Are you sure, Art? I thought they brought the capability to OS X generally after the introduction of the MBA.

I used DVD sharing last week between my antique Powerbook G4 and my new MacPro - no dramas at all.

Did you use it to install the OS? You can share discs but you can't boot another computer unless it's a MBA.

I installed software, but did not try to install an OS as yet, I will give it a try later for fun

I hope you're not waiting on Andy8 before you try installing yourself. I gave you an alternative that doesn't rely on DVD sharing.

Exactly - It could be a few days or even a week before I am messing with this.

Take Art's advice
