Hi,
I have a G5 (PowerPC Mac, OSX10.4.11, 2 CPUs, 2GHz

Couple of questions:
I'm told this model only upgrades to 10.5 Leopard b/c it's a NON-Intel Mac.

If I install 10.5 Leopard, can I still run my currently installed older apps — CS2 and Quark 6.5?
And is installing it a painless task like an upgrade? Or a major deal requiring an erase.

Don’t really want to upgrade the pricier apps at the moment but want to bump up the OS a notch to allow an install of a printer. My Epson 1270 (now working off a G4) uses a driver that apparently does not exist for 10.4.11. Does that make sense? I’ve seen it for 10.0 to 10.1 (?) AND for 10.5 and higher...

Any input you have on this much appreciated.

Adobe officially only supports CS3 under Leopard.

I still have Photoshop CS2 on my old PowerBook running Leopard and never upgraded it to CS3 because it's now my backup laptop. I don't know about the whole CS2 suite but Photoshop CS2 seems to work fine under Leopard. Since CS2 it's not officially supported under Leopard, Adobe won't release any bug fixes so you have to try your luck to see if it works. I haven't fully tested it out because my main computer is using CS3 but it seems to work when I have used it.

You might want to install the older drivers and see if they work on 10.4. Sometimes they do work but aren't officially supported like the case of CS2. You have nothing to lose if you are forced to upgrade anyways to get the printer to work. You might also want to try installing the 10.5 driver because of the same reason before thinking about upgrading to 10.5.

I have 4 different machines all running OS 10.5.8 and have the Adobe CS2 suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign & GoLive) on them, and they all function fine.

(Same with Quark 6.5, but we could argue about how Quark functions, independent of the OS :-) )

Once in a while, Illustrator sends a file to a different printer than the one chosen in the print dialog, but it's random & very occasional. Not a huge deal.
