Hi,
this time, I tried installing Leopard over Panther, but on another machine. I was using another DVD, but after the installer checked the disk for consistency, and found no errors, I reckoned, the DVD's not damaged. So, I've selected Archive/Install, and the installer proceeded with the installation. Everything was goings OK, until the last minute, when the blue line was practically complete, and it stayed like that for over four hours. Than I tried to quit the installer, but I couldn't get the dropped down menu, and quit the installer, as the computer was stuck frozen. So, I used the power button on the back, and tried to boot the computer again, holding the C key. So, I got the installer again, and I thought, I should do the installation again, but I figured, that there is not enough space on the HD. Before the first attempt, I had a little over 20 gigs, but now, the info said, only about 8 gigs was left. I tried going to disk utility, and did repair disk, and the report said the HD was fine. Then I tried to restore the new OS, by dragging the OS X to the source field (image), and choosing the destination, Mac HD, and after punching restore button, I was informed that restore had failed, as the file already exists. After that, the last thing I thought of, was to try to erase the OS (also in disk utility), but the drop down menu is showing four different OSs, wich are: OS Extended (Journaled), OS Extended, OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled), OS Extended (Case-sensitive). Should I delete all of them, few of them, or just one, and that way gain additional space on the HD, and try the installation again, or, is there another way to solve this issue? I guess, as the DVD was checked for consistency, and there were no problems reported, that the disk is in order.

Oh,
one thing I forgot to ask. Under erase (disk utility), there are security options, which should be selected, Don't Erase Data, Zero Out Data, 7-Pass Erase, or, 35-Pass Erase...?

1. Something failed in the installation the first time around (when you had to do a hard shut down) - it happens sometimes, but it can also point to there being something wrong with your hard drive (or possibly your RAM).

2. You shouldn't be trying to do a Restore in that fashion because you'd just be restoring the installation disc on to your hard drive, which isn't something you'd want to do. A Restore is a full copy of one volume to another, and it works when you have another disk with OS X installed on it that you want to clone on to a destination disk.

3. When you select to erase and reinstall the options that you're shown - Mac OS Extended, Mac OS Extended (Case Sensitive), etc. - aren't different OSs that are installed that can be deleted. They are just the different drive options that OS X can be installed using, and you should select the first one: Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

I agree with you that you should try an Erase and Install, but make sure you have all your personal data backed up first because that will erase your hard drive completely.

Oh, sorry I forgot about that part of your post. No, the security options don't matter unless you have a reason to completely obliterate the data that used to be on the disk. A simple erase is all that's needed.

Hey, you're the man!
Although, I'm not bad myself either, as the proceeder I wanted to pursue, and needed confirmation, worked. The only thing, I lost entire iTunes library, but, that was the only file I got, so, practically, no harm done.
