I have recently migrated some applications/data from an old emac with a dead screen onto my new one.
Quite by chance I noticed (after about 4 weeks)that I had 3 user accounts, none of which I set up but they mysteriously appeared after the migrate.
When I log off may main admin account and go into the others there are apps/documents/pics etc which i thought I had lost.
Can i transfer this info onto my main account then delete these other accounts?
The other thing is, why, when I look at the hard drive info doesnt it report this data, there was about 2gB of application data and picture files which I didn't even know was there.
Thanks

You can use /Users/Shared (which is created by default by the OS) to move data between users.

This is one of the only locations set up with full access to all users of the machine.

Many thanks. I have brought all my documents etc into my own Account now.
This begs the question though, if these other user accounts were not mine but other computer users unknown to me, but assuming their files were protected from my beady eyes, isn't that strange I can access them?
Or am I missing something?

I noticed the same thing on my Macbook two days ago. I asked questions here.

If you are using your own account and that account has administrative privileges, you'll be able to see within any account directory that isn't yours...on your local system, that is. If its a remote system, a possible explanation is below.

How are you seeing all of this? The only place I can think of is under Finder (left hand pane under Shared). From my understanding, these are other systems on the network...you may see these if your WLAN is wide open and you're sharing out access (a good example of this would be in a hotel or library that has an non-secured WAP).

Also, your share settings may be set to 'everyone - read only'. If you change the settings from 'read only' to 'none', you'll stop seeing these other accounts (and they'll stop seeing yours, as they'll surely have that capability).
