i'm asking this here because i'm feeling optimistic....like the OS can do this WITHOUT a shareware app.
i want to take a screenshot of a window that is larger than my monitor; i can easily take a picture of what i can see, but how do i get an image i can open in Preview that will capture the WHOLE window??
thought this would be easy to figure out (or maybe i'm just tired...)...
thanx!
EDIT: i should point out this is really for my brother, who is on 10.4.11 (as i thought i found a 10.5 compat app for this).

Apple-Shift-4 then hit the Space bar and click on the desired window or any other interface element. You'll have a picture of just that element in its entirety.

How can a window be larger than your monitor? Dual monitor setup? I'm not clear what you're trying to do...

the window is a list of files; the list is long, so he has to scroll to see all the contents.
he wants to have a screenshot, that would also need to be scrolled thru to see the entire list.
it's easy to take a picture of what's visible onscreen. is there a way to take a picture of the entire window??

Ignore my suggestion. It will take a picture of all of a window even if it's partially offscreen but not all of it if it's bigger than your screen.

Print Window. This is not going to print the Finder window as you see it but if you need the list of files-folders it works quite well.
