So, not a trouble free update then. Straight after updating it became obvious that all was not well in CS3 land, with all the component apps quitting on launch.

After trying all manor of fixes it appears that there is indeed a (major) issue with this update and CS3, rooting in the system serial number checking. Should your copy of OS X have a serial number less than 12 digits or with a # in it, then CS3 falls over.

Obviously with Adobe "not supporting CS3" their solution is to move up to CS5. Apple have issued 10.6.3 v1.1 but this has not fixed the issue.

I read about this elsewhere. I have CS3 running just fine on my MBP with its 11 digit serial number. So there must be more to this than that.

Is the 'serial number' you're talking about actually the hardware's serial number? The client version of Mac OS X has no serial number. The server version of Mac OS X has a serial number.
