I have an original Time Capsule 1TB running 7.4.2. It’s used to backup all my Macs at home, act as a router, and the remainder of space on the 1TB internal drive is used as a file server.
I can’t search the Time Capsule disk from any Mac, running 10.6.3, over the network, wired or wireless. I’m not trying to search the Time Machine backups, but the files on the TC disk itself as mounted via AFP on any Mac. Any search invoked via Spotlight, a Finder window, or Command-F always results in “0 Items” regardless of if the search is for “Content” or “File Names.”
I’ve tried adding and removing the TC drive from the “Spotlight” Sys Pref’s “Privacy” tab, and also tried using Terminal commands like "mdutil -i on /Volumes/TC Drive” and “mdutil -E /Volumes/TC Drive” to force an index. There is never a “.Spotlight-V100” created on the TC drive.
If I disable indexing via "mdutil -i off /Volumes/TC Drive” it will search by file names only, but won’t search via any metadata. I have several Smart Searches that no longer work after moving data to the Time Capsule, so searching via file name alone isn’t very useful.
