Annoying Bluetooth connect/disconnect display

I got my first Bluetooth mouse (go woot.com!), and it works fine with my MBP. However, it powers down after about 10 or 15 minutes of non-use to save battery. OS X conveniently lets me know this by flashing a "disconnected" display with a picture of a mouse. That's great, but when I'm giving a presentation, I don't need (or want) this notification. It's embarrassing. Anybody know a way of turning this off?
