In the sharing preference pane, os x automatically creates folders for each user's public folder named "User1's Public Folder", "User2's Public Folder", etc. I accidentally removed one of these from the list and when I try to re-add it, it just shows up as "Public". Does anyone have any idea how to get it back to it's original "User's Public Folder" short of deleting the user account and recreating it? I've added quite a lot of changes to this particular user and don't want to have to rebuild everything I've done. Any and all help appreciated. Running 10.5.8. Thanks!

Instead of selecting the public folder itself when you re-add it, what happens if you select the folder one level up: the User1, User2, etc. folder?

that results in the entire home folder being shared with the short username as the folder name.

When I added my Public folder, it added my name to the share point name. I'm on 10.6.4.

well, it's nice to know it works on 10.6.4, but that's not the same behavior on 10.5.8...

You can try running the 10.5.8 Combo update. I remember various 10.5.x updates adding the Public folder shares back after I had deleted them. Delete any Public shares you've created yourself first.

Did you delete the one you created first?

Art, that worked! Now I need to figure out if reinstalling the update screwed anything else up. My admin account is acting weird after I did the installs through a regular account. Thanks for the tip, though!
