I have a lot of hard disk space tied up in old records. The app for some of these records offers to save both the data files AND a full version of the app to CD. But that's just it-I don't want to keep burning CDs to back up this stuff. Instead I'd like to put all of it I can onto DVDs for more compact storage and to keep with my "important papers."

So how do I convince my Mac that I have a CD to burn these files to? Any good apps that aren't expensive or crap or both? My searching has revealed only "here's how you can back up all that music" apps, and most for Mac are either free-but-crippled or expensive.

Create a CD disc image with Disk Utility and copy to that. It should work fine. Then save multiple CD images to a single DVD.

If it were simply copying, that would work fine. The app wants to see a "CD" before it will do its thing, thus the need for a virtual CD-R. Unless you can make a disc image look like a CD-R, (and I don't know how to do that), I don't think this would work.
