I ordered a ide/usb kit to pull the HD and attempt to save the data. Problem I forsee: The G3 was OS 9 and all my other iMacs (Intl the oldest) are current OS 10's... I sorta remember 'back when' when you could have both OS on your computer, but can you do that today? (I also put a WTB in my local Cragslist..) Thanks.

You don't need to. Just plug in the drive to another Mac and copy your files - you don't need to boot from it.
The low-end Mac Pro is the most overpriced Mac since the IIvx
