Hi guys,

I'm a Finnish music producer (meaning I'm very dependant on my Mac) and am fighting with a problem I need help with. I am running a 2 x 2.66 Ghz Dual-Core Intel Xeon with OS X 10.6.6.

I was forced to restore the whole system from a Time Machine back-up but now I can't access the external hard drives I have (translated from Finnish as something like "the drive XXX cannot be opened because you don't have rights to see its contents).

I am logged in as my name with admin privileges. Altogether there are four external hard drives/partitions that I can't get into after the restoration of the system. Only the system hard drive and the time machine backup drive work as should.

I am not very good with system privileges so I thought it'd be better to ask for help before ruining anything too serious. I'm in the middle of a very important project so it'd be terrific if someone could help me through this mess! Thank you so much!

Select the problematic drive in the finder.
File -> Get Info
Check the box at the bottom that says "Ignore ownership on this volume"
(You may need to click the lock and put in your admin password to do this.)

Thank you for your quick reply! But the strange thing is that when I try to click on the icon of the external hard drive I get the message saying that "the the folder XXX(name of the drive) cannot be opened because you have no rights to see its contents" (this is a rough translation from Finnish but I'm sure you get the point). Also pressing the info button doesn't open the info box of the desired hard drive but the box of the system disc instead.

So I find it strange that I can't get to those hard drives even though I haven't done anything with them, only restored the system disc.

It is possible that something got messed up within the OS when you restored. Try to re-install the combo updater Mac OS X v10.6.6 Update Combo and report back. Of course, backup everything
