Is it possible for iTunes to open this type of stream?
Code:
Content type: Windows Media Audio/Video playlist (video/x-ms-asf) URL: http://players.creacast.com/creacast/radio_napolidoc/playlist.asx
It wouldn't work in iTunes for Windows on my PC (only works in Windows Media Player), does it work on a Mac? I want to know if I can listen to this type of stream on a Mac. Thanks.

Thanks. I don't have a Mac to try this on... which is why I am asking for clarification here. Are you saying that iTunes won't play that type of stream on a Mac and that VLC for OSX will? Or are you saying to install VLC because it will install the needed codec and then iTunes will work? Or are you saying to install the VLC web plugin?

That particular link works neither in iTunes nor in QuickTime on my machine.

.asf is a Windows Media stream. iTunes cannot play any Windows Media files natively. VLC is a stand-alone media player that will play just about anything you care to throw at it, as long as there's no DRM involved. I plugged the stream url into VLC and it played perfectly.

As for the VLC web plugin...I know the Mac version of the plugin has been extremely buggy in the past, so I've never bothered to try it again. I simply use the stand-alone player.

It's very frustrating, I have run this audio stream on Quicktime in the past (L, SL) but it just won't open now in Lion. Radio New Zealand
I have an up to date Flip 4 Mac installed but it just won't open the URL.

I was able to get VLC to play the stream URL I was asking about originally.

I also managed to get the stream to play in iTunes by creating a .m3u file of the stream and then having iTunes play that.

achillies, I would recommend you try VLC with your stream.
