No, I'm not stuck in a loop... "obviously."

-20714 looks fine.
-20713 looks like ****. Same goes for all the way up to -20710... looks like teletubby fingers.
-20709 looks fine.

The 10.7.3 finger looks like it's been up someone's p***er.

I wasn't talking about you, you dolt.

You asked where the finger had been.

In other news...

Found this little hint: If you enable the following hidden Dock setting:

Code:
defaults write com.apple.dock scroll-to-open -bool TRUE
you can trigger Application Expose by scrolling the mousewheel over an icon in the Dock - the same way you could trigger it by holding the button down on an app back in SL. Doing it over a folder opens it as a stack or menu. I initially thought this pointless, until I realized that it was a way to trigger it when you're dragging a file (spring loading opens the Finder window). No big deal, but a little bit better when I'm trying to find that elusive Finder window.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

I'm not the dolt, you're the dolt.

And obviously I was referring to where that finger had been since it looks bad.

Go back to the old finger...

Let me clarify:

You joked that you didn't want to know where the finger had been.

I joked that I knew where it has been all this time: stuck in a looped animation out of the Classic operating system.

You misunderstood me and thought I insulted you.

End of excursus.

Imagine fighting about something so passé as Lion?

Anybody want to comment on the Mountain Lion finger?

Yet ANOTHER PROBLEM with Preview... for this one, what is the solution?

I'm filling out an interactive PDF (e.g. I can type in my name on the form).

When I fill it out, and send it to someone via email, he says it's blank on his PC!!

But I just edited it, and I can see what I typed; it's not blank.

Apparently this has been a problem in Preview since like 10.4.

What is the fix for this????

I'm really getting tired of all this stupid troubleshooting with computers.

Well, the obvious solution would be to just use Acrobat reader instead.

Also, why does Lion's Preview not recognize double-tap?

I have to keep typing Command-Shift-8 to zoom to selection (analogous to Safari's double-top to zoom to element).

Hint - 8 - Mountain Lion 10.8 should have the update (alright I'm done)

H*** m*****f****** sh**!! ANOTHER PROBLEM with Preview!

When someone on a PC edits my PDF (as one would an English paper) and sends it back to me, all the purple edits are blank. I have no idea what the colors mean.

Explanation: suggestions for changes can be red, purple, or yellow as he edits them on his PC. I have no idea what he uses. But when I get the document back in Preview, I can see comments for some yellow, some red, and nothing in purple, but there should be suggestions in the purple edits.

After talking with the other person, he says that it's a problem with the software I am using to read the PDF.

This means Preview!

H*** s***! How many more problems is this reduced-to-beta program going to have? This thing worked fine in 10.5. C'mon Apple change it back to how it used to work!!

Better yet, go back to 10.2.8, before you started breaking all your operating systems and charging us (like doctor-patients) to fix your own faults. This is BS!

I was recommended by IT to use Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Preview does not display the purple Insert icon (looks like an upsidedown T to the right of a word),

whereas Adobe Acrobat does display them.

I'm surprised anybody is surprised that Preview doesn't completely replace Acrobat (Reader).

It's called PREVIEW for a reason. To expect it would do things like filling out forms correctly is maybe, uhm, a stretch ?

You don't say...

Adobe controls most everything about the pdf format. Preview has basic pdf capabilities, but for content creation type stuff, even if relatively simple stuff like filling form type documents, Reader, or preferably Acrobot Pro, is just much more capable.

Actually, PDF is an open industry standard format. And there is software short of Acrobat Pro that is much more capable than Preview of editing PDF files.

Has anybody yet figured out how to change text annotation alignment in Preview?

Sometimes I want left alignment. Sometimes I want right alignment. And I'm not about to shell out $$ for Acrobat Pro just for 4 lines of text.

I went through 4 pages about this in the Apple discussions forum, and still none of those guys had an answer.

Did I already mention how stupid Preview is in terms of not saving files because Preview thinks they're locked, even though they're not?

Export anything in Photoshop to a JPG, then tell Preview to resize and save it. Preview says it's locked and WILL NOT save any changes you make to it.

But the file isn't locked.

What the hell?

Did anyone, and I mean anyone, play-test Preview for a minute before they released Lion?

I swear, 10.8 better have all these problems fixed if they want me to pay $30 to upgrade, because I really expect more for my money.

Here's another one.

If I want to add an arrow, and then text to an image, just before I add text, I click on the "A" to show the text box and change the font size. Then I add my text.

Fine.

But then if I move the text around and decide that I want to change its size,

[1] the size doesn't change when I click on the number, and
[2] when I double-click to highlight the text, and then go over to the text box to change the size, the entire text box becomes disabled. I can't change it, I can't even close the stupid window because the red and green X and + buttons won't even appear. I have to Quit Preview and start fresh.

This is an entirely reproducable problem, as with the others.

MORE PREVIEW ****-ups!

Here's a guaranteed way to make it crash.
Let's say that I'm adding a bunch of PDFs in the Sidebar to create a longer PDF.
I can launch the documents by themselves by double-clicking on them in the Finder, but if I do something, Preview will lock up when I double-click.

That something is: Let's say that I want to add a single PDF to the end of the documents in the Sidebar of the combined PDF. I can drag and hold the single PDF over the bottom of the Sidebar until the last PDF moves up and out of the way of the list so that I can drop it at the end. That's also fine. But then as soon as I launch a subsequent single PDF, Preview locks up!

Now you might say, gee, why do you even bother to open the document?
Why? Because I check.
Now you might say, why not just drag the document over and be done with it?
I sometimes can't. If I do that, in the process of dragging the document over, the text and blue highlight outline for the object of the single PDF filename stick to various places on my combined PDF document a few times in a couple of seconds; when I release my trackpad button, the object of the single PDF filename returns to where it was in the Finder, and Preview locks up anyway.

I do this all of the time, four to five times per week. I never get Preview crashes as a result. When you say "lock up" do you really mean crash?

No, I mean lock up.

Preview didn't use to do this.

*sigh*

When 10.8 comes out, I think I'll just do an erase and install (and yes I'll make a boot disc).
