I have a small digital camera that I connect to my MacBook Pro via USB to download the captured videos. Its 4GB of memory was visible under Snow Leopard (and still is with my wife's non-upgraded iMac) and I could drag the files across to the MBP, but with Lion (10.7.1) installed on my MBP, the USB device (named NONAME) is no longer visible. Has anyone else experienced this? Is anyone able to suggest a workaround?

Maybe removable media to show up on your desktop is disabled now in the finder settings? Check Finder -> Settings!

If you mean the Finder Preferences/General, I checked all four boxes there, with no effect.

What shows up in System Profiler and Disk Utility, respectively?
The low-end Mac Pro is the most overpriced Mac since the IIvx

Excellent question. System Information shows the USB device as: USB DISK:

Product ID: 0x0003
Vendor ID: 0x115e
Version: 1.00
Serial Number: 200605091234
Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec
Location ID: 0xfd130000 / 8
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 500

Disk Utility does not acknowledge its existence.

Assuming a recent MBP, can you remove the SD card and see if it works directly in the SD card slot instead of connecting the camera?

The camera has no removable components, so no SD card; even the batteries are recharged via the USB interface.

if it showed up previously on the desktop as a removable drive, can you see it in Drive Utility?
Is it possible that the camera is a FAT16 format and not FAT32? Lion may not read FAT16. What is
the make and model of the camera?

It showed up on the desktop and in the Finder & Path Finder sidebars under Snow Leopard, but in none of them under Lion. The Lion Disk Utility response was provided earlier, above; DU does not recognise the USB is there. The camera is a special purpose camera; its make and model are not marked on it. When I plug it into my wife's iMac running Snow Leopard, Disk Utility can see it, and says it is FAT32 formatted. I have checked all of my USB slots on the MBP and on my external hub; they are still working with another USB stick and my external keyboard.

USB-powered devices often experience flaky operation. Since nothing else has worked you might try testing it plugged in to a powered USB hub.

Thank you, but the external hub I mentioned is powered; the yellow LED on its port lights when this device is plugged in, but the MBP still cannot see it.
