I just switched from a PC to a MAC with Lion. There are a number of things that seem more difficult with a MAC, but of particular annoyance at the moment is that when I hold down the delete/backspace key, it still slowly deletes one character at a time. This is despite my having set the keyboard key repeat to fast and the delay to slow. This also goes for holding down a character key. On a PC, if you hold down a key, it will begin to repeat. The longer you hold it down, the faster it repeats. How do I replicate these functions on a MAC?

I just tried it out, holding down a key does make it repeat, fast, but not too fast so that one can have some control. Delete does the same thing.

Maybe your definition of fast key repeat is different from others. How fast do you want it to be, say how long should it take to erase a single line of characters?

Are you using a wired or wireless keyboard? Have you tried a different keyboard?

The key repeat rate is set in System Preferences > Keyboard. I recommend you max it out.

I kind of assumed that the OP had done that already. But you may be right.
