Hi,
I am running Mac OS X 10.6.8 using Safari ver 5.1.1. The last few days I am not able to download anything. I can browse at will but the moment I try to download a file (dmg. zip. anything) the window goes black, I can see the spinning thingy indicating activity but nothing happens. If I go to Window/Activity I can see the file downloading but if I go to Window/Downloads the file is not shown. After the activity window indicates that the file has been downloaded I can't locate it anywhere. Any thoughts? Please help...

Do you get the same behavior if you download using Firefox?
Have you checked your Safari Preferences and made sure the Downloads folder is indicated for downloading?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I can't download another browser to check whether the problem occurs with other browsers as well. Yes, the Downloads folder is indicated in Safari Preferences.....

Here are a few things to try:

- from the Safari menu choose Reset Safari....

- create another OS X user account and try Safari there.

- reinstall the latest OS X combo update if you have it saved on your Mac (since your only browser won't let you download

I suppose you could also use curl from the Terminal to download the combo updater and or Firefox (which would itself let you download the combo update).
