When I look at a finder window it says my available capacity is 835.39, however if when I open disk utility it says the available capacity is 330.0. Why are the sizes different? I also ran disk inventory x and the available space is the same as disk ulitity. I think my available space should be closer to what finder says not disk utility. How can I figure out what is correct and recover the lost space?

I have a early 2011 15" MBP i7, with a 1TB hd.

Thanks,
David

Perhaps the Finder is not counting the space taken up by the mobile backups?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Where can I find the mobile backups? I can't imagine they take up 500 GB though, right?

Nevermind, I found the answer. they are local Time Machine backups. They can be turned off by using "sudo tmutil disablelocal" in terminal.

Thanks,
David
