Greetings,

I'm new to to this forum and MACs in general. I downloaded an application yesterday (Cyberduck) which does not have a dmg installer but an app file. I need to execute this app file everytime i need to open the program. I may clean out the downloads folder from time to time and hence,

1. I'm at risk of accidentally deleting the app, so is there any folder I can permanently store it in ? Where are the MAC installed apps stored ? (like the windows program files?)

2. How do I add this app file to the launcher, so I can run it directly from the launcher rather than having to go to the folder each time (and remembering where I had kept the app file)

Hello,

You should drag the file to your Applications folder.

If you don't know where the Applications folder is, click on the desktop background, then click on the go menu at the top of the screen.
Then about two thirds of the way down click Applications.

This will open the folder with all your Apps.

Drag cyberduck into here (you may need to enter a password).

Now its saved in the apps folder.

Drag any apps you use regularly into the dock at the bottom of your screen.
you will see the other apps nicely move out of the way to welcome them.

If it still doesn't appear in Launcher, "Make an Alias", that should appear in Launcher, Control Click mouse on app.

FWIW you should also have a link to your applications folder in the sidebar of every Finder window by default.
