Hi there!

My problem is this: I have a pen drive (a Cruzer micro 8GB) that I put into my iMac back at home and popped some files into it. I put some files into a folder called 'System' and then took it out. When I've tried to open this pen drive on my MacBook Air (or any other computer for that matter), I've not been able to see or access the system file. I went back to my iMac once and opened it there: voila! The system file was back. But I forgot to transfer them at the time and now that I'm away from my iMac and need the files, the system folder has vanished once again.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Cheers!

The only thing I can think of, and it doesn't make much sense, is that you named the folder "System". Try renaming it.

Also, check the permissions on the folder by doing a Get Info.

Finally, you can always see all items using Terminal. Just do:

cd <drag and drop the drive into Terminal>
ls -a
cd System

No need to use the Terminal. If the folder's become invisible, you can get into it using the Finder just by going to the pen drive, choosing "Go to Folder…" from the Go menu, and then typing "System".

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
