Hey guys,
I just bought a 128gb SSD and need to format it. I'm running OS X Lion 10.7.3 on a 13.3" MBP. Do i use disk utility or do i need to get a third party app? Also, after i format it, i want to just put my applications on my SSD and have all my other files on a external hard drive, how would i do this??
Thanks,
Denz23

Just use Disk Utility. Do not overwrite your SSDs with 0, this is actually harmful to them. I think the simplest way to put your user fold on another hard drive is to use the User settings in the System Prefs: right-click the user and then you find an option to change the default user's home folder location to whatever you like.

You can also use symbolic links to only move certain parts off the SSD: I keep my Library and my Dropbox on my SSD since they contain my mail data base, my settings and my most recently used documents.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
