Greetings yet again!
I am trying to connect a microphone to my computer. I've used it before and got it to work.
Now I can't seem to get it to register.
It's a Plantronics system, a set that I can wear with a microphone and earphones.

I plug it in, go to the Sound Preference, go to the Input tab, click on Line In for the Audio line-in port, and it should just work.

It doesn't.

Meanwhile, if I connect an iPod's audio cable into my Mac, that registers fine.

What's going on with the Plantronics?

I don't even see any microphone drivers on their site, just some software for making calls.

(Also: I can seem to move the thread)

This one time, at Boot Camp, I stuck a flute up my PC.

Update.

Plantronics is a PILE OF F****** SH**!!
Microphone will now not work unless I have the USB adapter. I repeat: F******! BU**S***!
Can someone recommend a better microphone/earphone combo that doesn't need a stupid-a**-adapter?

If you select "line in" for the sound input, it CANNOT work with a mic input.

Devices that should work:

a) Anything that will hook up via USB.

b) Anything with a single tip-ring-ring-sleeve 3.5mm minijack.

Then how come I got it to work last year without the adapter, multiple times over 2 months?

By not setting it to "line input"?
