I had held off the migration to Lion after hearing the horror stories, but the need to use iBooks Author for a project forced me into making the update. Unfortunately it crashed the hard drive in my MacBook Pro (2.53ghz Core2 Duo, 4gb ram, mid 2009 model). Admittedly the hard drive was a slightly older 500gb Western Digital hard drive (when I got the new laptop I had the Applestore techs remove the drive from my old MBP and install it in the new one), so it wasn't a complete surprise.
I had a two year old 500gb Seagate drive that that was sitting in a drive enclosure, so I got the laptop running briefly, and cloned the the drive to the Seagate, then ran a drive rebuild using DiskWarrior. However, the result was still unstable. So in desperation I've blown out my normal TimeMachine backup drive and installed 10.7.3 there, and then went to migrate the applications and user accounts to the external, figuring I could run from there for the moment while waiting for my new SSD to arrive.
Now, here's the problem. The applications imported, but at the end of the import I got a note that some of the VMware files couldn't be imported (fine, I recently set up an Win7 box to test webpages in IE anyway, so VMware was no longer vital). And the user accounts aren't importable at all. I even tried launching MA again and importing the user accounts and it happily tells me that the user accounts were successfully imported without actually importing them. Has anyone else run into this issue? Or have any ideas for a workaround?
(And before anyone attacks, I'll answer this forehand this time, I've probably been using Macs longer than 90% of you as I go all the way back to System 6, the reason I only post about problems is that I only post on the rare instances that I have problems.)
