Guys, having a bit of an issue here.

I've set up a server to run AFP and SMB share points for our users to store and share files. I'm having an issue with permissions that I can't seem to figure out.

I know that you can set an ACL in the "Storage" section of Server.app under settings, however, it is not letting me set that ACL for the group I want to grant access to, just the singular user who created the folder. Its not giving me the little "drop down" arrow to set the custom permission for the group. I can't seem to find any documentation as to why some users and groups can be assigned to the ACL and some cannot.

My end goal is for group permissions to be inherited by all child files and folders, which can only be done with an ACL and not with POSIX.

Any help or references to put me on the right track would be much appreciated. Let me know if I wasn't clear enough with my description. I can show you screenshots should you need them.

Okay so figured it out. Wish lion server did a better job of telling you whether you're adding POSIX or ACL permissions. Had to remove the group from File Sharing in Server.app then add it with custom permissions under the "storage" -> "Edit permissions" part in server app.

Odd, it usually just defaults to using ACLs under the File sharing pane of server app.
