Hi there-
Does anyone have any information or opinion regarding FileMaker on OSX Server and how this corrolates with WebObjects?
My company has a mixed platform environment with a NT primary FileServer/Internet Gateway and a G3 FMPro Server/secondary FileServer. Right now we only have 15 clients accessing the mac server but I expect this to double or triple by the end of the year. We are running DAVE on the mac so the PC's can see the drive, but besides that we are using the built in filesharing.
Basically, FMPro Server running on MacOSX Server looks very attractive as I'm sure the filesharing on the shared drive would be quicker and more robust than 8.5.1. This machine is also going to do some light-duty webserving of the FM databases and possibly be the center of a extranet currently proposed.
I know next to nothing about WebObjects but it has been mentioned to me as a possible solution for the extranet development. If using WebObjects that would require OS X Server and then FileMaker would have to be bumped to another machine. My boss won't like that.
So anyways, I'm just trying to get a feel for how this will all shake out. Is FMPro 5 anywhere near completion? Word of an OS X version? Even in beta yet? And will it play nice with WebObjects at all or is that not necessary?
Thanks in advance for any discussion,
Jodin
