First time post here, long time reader, and a quick question.

Is it me that AFP via IP doesnt let you connect to a Windows NT box from Jag?

I can't seem to get it to work at home anymore when i try to connect to my work's file server. It used to work under 10.1 and below. I can have the server on my desktop, but when I try to get a file, I see blank icons and when I click on that file icon it disapears.

Anyone else notice this problem, or can help? I checked on Apple's discussion group and nothing.

Maybe it's AppleTalk w/NT using Apple Share thing that Jag doesn't adhere to anymore?

Thanks.

I have been watching this post for a while waiting for someone to spread some wisdom.

I have found this same problem in a few instances.

connecting a file share using smb://

If a an OS X machine is member of a domain without administrator privileges then the user will get the mounted disk icon, but it will soon disappear when trying to browse it.

Trying to access the drive using the terminal, gives and access denied message.

The only 2 work arounds I have come up with so far are:

give all your mac users administrator privileges. WHAT??!!

Install Services for Macintosh on the server then make sure you have appletalk active in the system prefs. then connect using afp:/at/

Now, what about servers that are not under your control?
That is a great question and I am waiting for the answer to that myself.

Whenever I try to VPN to a win2k server without admin privileges or SFM, I have to use a PC and I really hate that.
