I am having a problem with my network. I have an 867MHz single processor PowerMac with over 1GB of memory and 60 GB of disk space running X 10.2.1. It is connected via a hub to a couple of PCs. This is a local network not connected to the internet. For my internet connection I use PPP and the Macs internal modem. There is no domain name and no server. We just use the network for moving files between the Mac and the PCs by FTP.

For some reason the Mac seems to be constantly polling the network and producing errors. Here is a sample of the recent console.log.

Sep 25 18:57:32 Gandalf lookupd[547]: DNSAgent: dns_send_query_server - multicast send failed on interface lo0 for 224.0.0.251

Sep 25 18:57:32 Gandalf last message repeated 2 times

Sep 25 18:58:02 Gandalf /usr/sbin/lookupd: NetInfo connection failed for server 127.0.0.1/local

Sep 25 18:58:04 Gandalf netinfod local[273]: unable to bind to parent - RPC: Timed out

Sep 25 18:58:14 Gandalf netinfod local[273]: update 0 to custer[199.172.38.5]/local failed during binder contacting - couldn't getregister

Sep 25 18:58:14 Gandalf netinfod local[273]: update 0 to indiana[199.172.38.6]/local failed during binder contacting - couldn't getregister

Sep 25 18:58:54 Gandalf netinfod local[273]: update 0 to mensch[199.172.38.3]/local failed during binder contacting - couldn't getregister

What do I have to do to get rid of these CPU grabbing errors.

TIA,
Jim

I think my Unix/Windows fluent wife figured out what the problem was. It seems that we'd been trying to uses internet connection sharing a while back and DCHP had gotten turned on but not turned off. Also when I checked each of the systems in our little network, I noticed that they were each trying to connect to a nonexistent server. I've been running for about 40 minutes now and my console log is only reporting a printer error that seems to be related to starting up Classic. I'm not going to try to tackle that one tonight.
