I have a Power Mac G4 running Mac OS 9.2 in a school Mac lab, connected to a proxy server. It boots up running perfectly, loading pages in IE, but after a few seconds (perhaps the second page I load, or the third) the connection drops out. I can witness this in the AppleTalk control panel too - it finds the right zone when it boots up, but says "no zones available" when I open it after IE loses the connection.

Here's what I've done:

- Clean install the system
- Zap PRAM
- Tried different Ethernet cable
- Tried different Ethernet port on hub
- double-checked all proxy settings

All to no avail. It is my belief that the problem resides in the actual Ethernet hardware on the G4 - does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!
