I had to reinstll OS X 10.2 (don't ask!)

After the install, the upgrade to 10.2.1 also upgraded the AirPort software to 2.1.1 and now I cannot connect to the Base Station (original graphite) in 10.2.1 although I can get a connection if I boot to OS 9.2.2. I visited the local Apple Store (Valley Fair in Santa Clara/Silicon Valley) and was informed by one of the resident geniuses that I'd have to upgrade the Base Station software in order to connect in OS X. I hesitate to do this step because according to the release notes, this update is qualified for OS X only and my wife still connects using OS 9 on her original iBook. Imagine if I upgraded and she could not connect anymore!!

Do I have any way to downgrade the OS X software to the previous version?

I forgot to mention, this is on a Pismo/400. I am also experiencing reception problems where the iBook gets really good reception in the same room. Anyone else experiencing reception difficulty with a Pismo?
