I work at my university and I got a notebook connection.

1. Is there a way to use the automatic proxy configuration?

2. Can I teach Mail to use my socks proxy so I can check e-mails here.

1. Get a browser that supports automatic
proxy detection such as Mozilla. IE doesn't.

2. Get fetchmail and compile it w/ --with-socks5

As to problem 1, I am aware of that. But I want to keep on using OmniWeb. The only thing that doesn't work right now is that I don't have access to all the publications.

2. Thanks for the hint, I will definitely look into that.

from the Omni FAQ:

Does OmniWeb support automatic proxy configuration? How do I configure OmniWeb to use a proxy server?

OmniWeb does not support automatic proxy configuration at this point. We plan to add it, but it's not in there yet. In the meantime we do honor the system-wide settings found in the Network pane of the System Preferences application.

You might want to find out from university the IP address and port of the real proxy
server and use it directly.

I got a problem regarding fetchmail. I have downloaded the sources and everything, but I claims that I do not have libsocks. I have tried to look for it on the net, but unfortunately I couldn't find it.

I have found dante (a socks client), but it did not compile correctly.

How can I get libsocks?
