Hey all,
For some reason my G4 and iBook will no longer recognize eachother on my network, I'm running a Linksys wireless router, and the iBook is on an Airport 128 WEP network. I was just transferring files to the iBook when I got the spinning beach ball, and then my finder crapped out ( IHATE THE FINDER APPLE!) now, the iBook won't show up or when I enter the IP it tells me this server is running on my machine and to access it locally.
It was just working, and now this. WTF?
Any help here would be nice, I'm ready to throw my G4 out the fricking window.

The first step is to reboot EVERYTHING. Particularly your Linksys box. The BEFW11S4 is a good machine, but it isn't chiseled out of titanium; it needs a reboot now and then to keep it "regular."

Secondly, make sure everything is properly plugged in. iBook AirPort cards have a history of loose antenna cables, so pay attention to that. Ensure that all cables are firmly installed and not kinked or anything. It's a good idea to keep a spare CAT5 cable or two around to make sure you haven't had a cable die on you, too.

Finally, slowly and carefully review every single setting, particularly the WEP keys you're using, to make sure that everything is still the way it's supposed to be. Some stray nutrino from Alpha Centauri may have zinged a bit in nonvolitile memory somewhere (that's as good an explanation as I've seen for this sort of random data change) and altered a setting.

Thanks GH... the iBook runs fine, connects to the internet fine, just won't show up on my network, the router was only purchased last week! I rebooted everything BUT the router, I'll try that tomorrow though maybe. It's wierd though, I can connect via ARD but not via the finder... who knows? I'm too tired now to deal with it, I've just been using ARD in the meantime.
Thanks again GH.
g'night.
:o
Cheers,
