We are looking for a reasonably priced 802.11b access point that will bridge Appletalk so that the machines connected via wireless can see our Appletalk printers.

Can anyone make recommendations on the SMC 7004 series or SMC 2404 series access points in particular or any other model that has worked well?

Thanks.

There is one user on this board that i know has bought the 7004AWBR. His user name ws "robot prom" . You could try searching post he has made and see if he posted his results...

here is a link he gave me

http://glennf.com/wifi/cheap.matrix.html

The SMC 7004AWBR is documented to work with appletalk so I dont THINK there should be any problems. Kinda hard to buy an airpot when the 7004AWBR goes for 100 bucks on pricewatch.

Check out Asante's wireless routers. I have the FR3002AL-1PCM, but that FR1004AL is only 129 bucks ON ASANTE'S SITE. I'd imagine you could find it cheaper elsewhere. The 1004 wasn't out when I bought mine. I don't use the printer port on my 3002, so I would get that now, if I had to do it over again.
Asante's wireless options handle AppleTalk no problem. I print to a HP 6MP (via an AsanteTalk box I've had for about 4 yrs now) from my AirPort eqpd iBook all the time. I can't remember the last time this router was turned off or even the last time I considered it. It just goes. I highly reccomend it. I also file share regularly and, of course, share my cable internet.

I'll second the vote for Asante.

BTW, I'm moderately sure that the SMC
and Asante are in reality the same or
very close to the same.
