I'm curious about using thrid-party antennae (specifically directional antennae) with the LinkSys WAP Router and Wireless-Ethernet bridges. Do these use the standard antenna connector?

Here's what I would like to do:

A friend of mine lives in a rural area where cable/DSL are not available. He is a DirecTV subscriber. His house is situated so that he is within line of site of his parents house and his small business' office.

We'd like to be able to hook up a wireless LAN between all three locations using DirecWay internet service, the LinkSys WAP router, directional antennae and the LinkSys AirPort Ethernet bridges at the remote locations.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Two items come to mind. The first is that you need to be very careful in selecting an antenna because of the type of connector you'll need it to mate with on the WAP (and maybe the bridges, too). If I remember correctly, the WAP uses a "reverse TNC" connector, which has the opposite center connection from a standard TNC connector.

The second thing is that directional antennas for wireless networking are EXPENSIVE. If you're not careful, you'll spend more on the antenna than you did on the equipment, maybe all the equipment.
