If you have an airport card in , say a G4 that is connected to the internet via a modem can you use an iBook with an airport card in it to access the internet simultaneously using just the one connection?

Or do you have to have the base unit and an airport card in each machine?

I thought this might be viable for those times when the wife and I both want to be on line

just wondering if I can save a dollar by doing it this way -and if so are there any problems?

This question has been asked and answered about two million times in this forum.

The answer is yes. The exact method depends on which version of the Mac OS you're running, 9.x, 10.1 or 10.2

In short you're looking for the software base station under Mac OS 9, or Internet Sharing under 10.2

Actually, I think that for most (all?) flavours of 10.1, the answer is 'no', so it was lucky that this dude asked the question again, so that the 2,000,001st answer could be corrected.

Be careful with irony, sarcasm, exaggeration, and rudeness, as they may backfire.

Similarly, if after 6 months no WMD are found, people who supported the war should say the same thing -- and move to impeach Mr. Bush." - moki, 04/16/03
