I want to share my DSL line betweeen a mac and pc. What do I need? I'm confused whether about whether I need a hub, or a router, or what? The DSL I have uses a dynamic IP(it changes each time I sign on). I use PPPoE to sign on the mac. And on the PC I use win poet, provided by Earthlink. Will a simple Asante friendly net 5 Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch work?

thanks

Get a router like a LinkSys BEFSR41 or if you want to share it on the cheap, just get a crossover cable and use Jag's internet connection sharing (if you have Jag).

a simple switch isn't gonna cut it.

You can get a real multiport router for
dirt cheap and let it do all the PPPoE
garbage instead of WinPoet or whatever.

i don't think this'll work, because his ethernet port is probably in use already for his DSL.. the crossover thing will work for standard dialup, though, since the ethernet port is free.

You're right. Duh.

Get the BEFSR41. $60.

You need a cable/DSL router and two regular ethernet cables. It is pretty cheap now, probably less than $50 for everything. Check DealNN or DealMac.
