that's pretty much the problem.. i've tried everything i can think of, so now i turn to you.
i have an SMC 2404WBR Barricade router (with wireless for the iBook i should have soon). it's on a DHCP network. in a snap it's set up routing to the network, but it won't resolve any names beyond this network (i.e. the internet). i can ping and access websites, etc. by their IP addresses, but not their names. i've tried setting my nameservers to what they usually are (sans router), and i've put the two nameservers into the web-based configuration for the router, but nothing works. i've tried setting the nameserver on my computer, the router, and both.
any ideas? thanks!

Usually a gateway router (actually anything set this way) will pick up not only an IP from a DHCP server, but a gateway address and the addresses of DNS servers. When you connect your computer to your service, does it get these additional addresses, or are they supposed to be manually set? If you're setting nameserver addresses in your router, are you also giving it a gateway address?

the router gets an IP and the right gateway, and *should* get the nameservers, but it also has a section in the config to enter the nameservers manually, which i did since it didn't work. and yeah, my computer works fine plugged into the network, just straight or through a hub/switch.

Go to the Status tab of the Barricade setup program and see what it shows for your DNS IP's. Then put those numbers on separate lines in the Name Server Addr. box of your TCP/IP control panel.
