Hey all,
Been here before, I have tried everything I can think of, but they will no longer network! They were working fine, then kablooey! Nothing! I've reset the router, restarted the machines, all to no avail. I have Linksys BEFW11S4 v2. wireless router, with the latest firmware applied. The iBook is on 128 bit WEP, and can connect to the internet like a champ. I can connect to the iBook with my G4 via ARDesktop, but not after the iBook has gone to sleep. Once it goes to sleep it loses the wireless connection, and is no longer available to me via ARD, which really bothers me too. Any help here would be great, my little network is in tatters! The only clue I have is that when try to connect to either machine thru the finder (apple + k) I get an error message of "error= -36" Hope that can help.

Mac OS since 8.something have been inherently networkable. Since you can share files through ARD, there is obviously some network functionality (until the iBook goes to sleep, that is). That leads me to think that something in the networking portion of your installation, probably on the G4, is corrupt or misconfigured. You don't mention what OS you're running, but unless it's something very new, I'd look into updating it.
Another issue to look into is firmware for the Linksys box. Check out their site to find out if there are issues with the version you are running (you can get that from the configuration web page for the router), and consider upgrading to a newer version that may address your issue.
The "sleep killing wireless" issue has been discussed here before, and it's not even a Mac-only issue. I have a PC laptop that did the same thing. My solution was to disable the power saving features of the wireless card, though I don't know if that's even possible with an internal AirPort card.

I had this problem in OS 9. After upgrading to 10.2 it was gone....

Hi, thanks for the input.
I'm running 10.2.2, so is the iBook, I have the latest firmware installed on the router (Nov. 15/2002), also, both machines are running FRESH and CLEAN installs of the OS. It was working fine, but when I had 3 copy processes running at once it just froze the finder after the third copy job started. Since then they have refused to network. As I said earlier, I get an error code (error= -36) whenever I try to connect via finder (apple + k) I thought the Jaguar update was going to address the connect from finder issues..? I don't really want to install the OS again... what are my options?
PS I fixed the wireless signal drop by setting the iBook to sleep "never".
Thanks in advance.

Hi all, after ignoring the problem for for the last few weeks and using ARD as a workaround, I finally sat down for an hour and figured out how to "reconnect" my wife's iBook and my G4 tower over the wireless Linksys router; change the names of the computers in sharing preferences. As soon as I did that, they networked instantly. Hope that helps anyone else who runs into this weird problem.
