OK the quick version of my problem is, Localtalk Bridge isn't letting machines on my Ethernet network see machines on my LocalTalk network.
Heres the long story. On my ethernet network I have the following machines (leaving out all that are irrelevant) a server, my G4 (main machine) and a PMac 6100. On my localtalk network I have that same 6100 and an old Centris 610 (040). PowerMac is on 9.1, Centris is 8.0, G4 is 10.2.2, and Server is 10.1.4 S. So on the 6100, I do indeed have LocalTalk Bridge up and running. Problem is that it doesn't seem to work at all. I tried configuring the Centris to use the Server as its internet router, as all other machines do but it didn't work. I had to throw more routing software onto the 6100 so the Centris' internet now gets double-routed. On the 6100, I believe AppleTalk is set to the printer port and internet is set to the Ethernet port. With the router on the 6100, I can now, from the Centris, type the local IP of my G4 and connect all the way to it. And I get a good 50-60K/sec on transfers too. Problem is I can't go from my G4 to the Centris. The network just isn't linked like it should be. I have no printers yet but I have an old school Laser Printer that I wanted to eventually hook up to this ClassicNet™ network of mine.
Switching to all ethernet is not the answer I'm looking for so please save your breath

I have a couple of thoughts, maybe not solutions:
1) Localtalk bridge is very old and unsupported. Is it possible that you are running too recent of an OS on the 6100?
2) Localtalk bridge is cheap. But there are commercial packages that can do what you want. I used to run the Vicomsoft Internet Gateway (now called Intergate) on my 6100. It'll do exactly what you want, but will cost $150. http://www.vicomsoft.com/

I don't think it likes anything newer then 8.6, but it might be 8.1.
I'm personally using 8 for my bridging mac.
More info
LocalTalk Bridge 2.1 is not believed to be completely compatible with Mac OS 8.5 though no specific incompatibility information is available.
Looks like it is 8.1 that you need.

Huh, interesting. And are you able to have machines on the localtalk side use the internet router on the ethernet side, or do you still have to run another router on the bridging mac?

No idea.
I doubt I've hooked a mac up to the localtalk side in 3 or 4 years.
I just run it for a printer.
Try and play with it.
If you need a router, LMK, I'll sell you my copy of IPNetRouter if you want, I don't use it anymore, but I know it worked for net for the localtalk mac, but it was installed on the bridge machine.

I have IPNR installed on the bridge mac now, it works to give localtalk computer internet even without LocalTalk Bridge. I'm hoping that if I can get the bridge working, I will only need one router... ill try downgrading...

your proble is simple, LocalTalk Bridge only dridges appletalk packets. It doesn't bridge TCP/IP or IPX or any other network protocal.
PS read the doc.

Appletalk is all i need bridge. Scott is right, OS 9 doesn't like TCP/IP over appletalk, but OS 8 can do it no problem. I'm downgrading my bridge right now to 8.6 and then everything should work.

Update, LocalTalk Bridge is for 8.1 only. There are other issues but its really a different idea and deserves a new topic...

One thing to keep in mind about LocalTalk Bridge is that the bridge machine MUST be the first one (on the LocalTalk side) to initialize its network connection!! So, if the bridge has to be rebooted, then either the LocalTalk connection must be removed (and restored after rebooting), or ALL the other LocalTalk clients must be powered down.
(Apparently, LocalTalk Bridge has to initialize the entire network in order to function, and as it happens, whatever device brings up its LocalTalk port first initializes the network. So you must ensure that no other device can do that.)
