Hi all,
I need to use Netmeeting for work and don't want to have to use a PC. I have a dual 1ghz mirrored doors connected to an AR601 router with no facility for DMZ or port range forwarding. Other info, I am running NetMeeting 3 using Virtual PC Win 98. I set up the machine so that the person I need to talk to can hear me and opened TCP ports 1503 and 1720. I can also share windows with him and chat fine, just can't hear or recieve video. Unfortunately I have heard that I need to open all ports from 1024 to 65535.

OK, I am pretty resigned to getting a new router and I can get a cheap one with DMZ or an expensive one with port range forwarding. First, one question about DMZ. If I set up this machine in the DMZ, will my other two machines be able to surf the web and send/recieve email? They don't need anything else, just this.

If they can't, is my only option to get a router with port range forwarding?

Thanks for any help you can give,

Rohan

I have a router that allows for a machine to sit in the DMZ. You can still have access to the internet with the other machines while this happens. Otherwise your router would really be doing no good and effectively it would be like unplugging your network and plugging only one computer to the connection.

You should be fine with an inexpensive router. I have a LinkSys I got for about $100 and it has a DMZ and settings for forwarding about 20 different ports or ranges.

I've not tried using NetMeeting in VPC and thought it would simply not be fast enough to handle the voice/video and sharing features. Something more I'll need to try out in the future!!!
