I can't get a computer to computer wireless connection to work between my vintage iBook (9.0.4-Airport card) and my G4 desktop (10.2.1-Airport-Software base station). I have been sharing a wireless DSL internet connection with the iBook with no problems. I have turned internet sharing off on the G4, then named a new computer to computer network. The new network shows up in the airport control panel fine on the iBook, or if I name a new one from the iBook, it shows up on the G4. What is the next step to make one of the desktops show up on the other computer? I went to the Go menu on the G4 to connect to server, but no luck. It did show my iBooks name in the connect to server box, but that was there from when I had the two connected with a ethernet crossover cable. What am I missing??
thanks;

I am also having difficulties connecting my G4 to my old ibook. Our problems sound similar enough that perhaps they're related.

I have new DP running 10.2 and a keylime ibook running 9.2.2. The network is hooked up as follows:

DP MirroredDoor Powermac running OS 10.2.2>(ethernet cable)>Asante router

keylime ibook running OS9.2.2>graphite airport basestation>(ethernet cable)>Asante router

also on the network wired to the router is a B&W G3 running OS 9.2.2 which doesn't seem to have problems connecting or being connected to by either of the other machines. The whole network connects successfully to the internet through the router to DSL modem.

Here's the issue. the ibook can connect to the DP Powermac no problem using airport but the powermac can't connect to the ibook. I get a window with "authenticating status. Authenticating to ibook as (my name)" and then it times out. However, if I connect the ibook to the router via ethernet (no airport) both computers can see and connect to each other. Searches in knowledge base don't turn up anything relevant.

Some theories:

1-graphite base station has issues with OSX.

2-I'm running airport 1.2 on the ibook and I think the 2.x versions only work with OSX.

3-ibook could be upgraded to OS X but then would it connect to the G3 running OS9? (I'm trying to keep at least one machine running only 9 until I've worked out all issues with my peripherals (especially gol dang mutter mutter Epson's) and applications.)

I do however wonder why airport issues would come into it. The G4 isn't using airport in any way and should in theory just see the ibook as another member of the network via the router.

Anyway, sorry if this is no relevant to your post but I'm fishing around here.

thanks.
