I'm trying to enable file sharing on one of the 5 computers in our office and have been told to get a static IP address. I was able to upload one IP address (ISP gave us 5) to the ABS, so we now have shared dsl internet acess and LAN but apparently the 5 computers are given DHCP addresses. If I manually configured the TCP/IP of a chosen computer with a static IP address then I would lose ABS LAN & dsl!

Obviously I'm missing something! Do I need the server hardwired to the ABS via an ethernet router?

If you put the ABS between the DSL modem and your computers, you'll only need ONE IP address. Leaving all the computers that use the ABS with DHCP should allow you to share files and printers among them, while sharing the single IP address the ABS uses. If you (or your boss) insist on having static addresses, that's no problem, just set them for the same subnet that the ABS is set up for (on the LAN side), and turn off the DHCP server in the ABS.
