I hooked everything up, and I can get on the net from both machines, but I' m trying to run a HL server from one of them, but nobody can get to it. I'm guessing this is due toa firewall or something? Whats weird is that I can use hotline client to get to other servers.... :|

What should I do?

Step one, return the Linksys and get a netgear for less money and more features.

Step 2, move to a real country.

I've had this for a while, and I'm not returning it. Its wireless also.

Last I remember you were the one considering moving up here.

Oh Step 3, accept the fact that you have been banned a million times and get a life.

Yoda,

Netgear boxes are not inherently better than Linksys; it's just that you've managed to roll craps with Linksys and have passed the line at least once with Netgear.

Max,

Put your server in the DMZ (an advanced setting in your Linksys router), or forward any and all ports your server needs to it (another advanced setting).

Rude comment: Read the book that came with what you got. Ask for help when you can't make the instructions work for you, or when you can't figure out the terminology.

Second rude (sort of) comment: Don't dog a brand of equipment every time you get a chance; it gets old.

There. I didn't yell or nothin'!

From what I have seen they sure as hell are. I just trashed my 2 linksys wireless routers are they were such garbage. I replaced it will a Netgear that cost much less and works MUCH better.

Even linksys's biggest supporter ditched them this week because they are buggy garbage.

I did read the manual. I put port forwarding on ports 5500-5504, the ports hotline uses....

and I can get onto my HL server from the OTHEr computer, and my server shows up on the trackers, but nobody can log onto it.

You probably need to assign a static IP to your computer, instead of using DHCP.

I'd never heard of this site. I've always depended on Broadband Reports and their Linksys Forum, which by the way, is directly supported by Linksys Inc. Linksys is responsive to customer feedback in this forum, and actual Linksys technical support people post here.

I already disabled DHCP and gave both computers static IPs. Then I did port forwarding (ports 5500-5505) to the computers IP with the server.

Anyone?

Yes I go there also. The linksys techs had such helpful posts as "if you upgrade your router and the red light goes on your router is fried."

They also recommend never to install the fireware upgrades unless you REALLY need to.

Would you please send me the ones you trashed? I like giving gear that people have given up on a good home. Email works..
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

Ok, how about giving us your complete set up, including all of the advanced settings you have done, etc. "Top of the head" suggestions obviously haven't helped you at all.

I think that this is very doable, but I need to know how everything is set up before I start mentally poking around in it.

Sorry but I pulled a sweet scam that got Linksys to take them both back and I got all my money back
