hello all.

i'm the IT person for a graphic design company in portland. i manage and maintain the G4s for the company and about 10 graphic designers.

traditionally if something goes wrong with a mac, i'll either run disk doctor, do a system reinstall, or give them another mac with a clean OS.

i'm looking for information, advise, knowledge, resources from someone with experience maintaining macintoshs in a corporate environment. tia

do you have some specific questions?

What's your environment like? What are the machine pre-loads like?

I tend to rely heavily on Alsoft's Diskwarrior as opposed to Norton.

Having a spare mac prepared with the proper software is a good plan. Having well-thought out plans to get people back up quickly is important.

If you can prevent outages, more the better.
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

A spare computer is a great tool. You may also consider building a standard disk image for all of your similarly equipped machines so that instead of swapping out computers you can simply rebuild the user's OS in place. This is a standard IT strategy in the Windows world, particularly since there are so many ways that outsiders or innocent users can hose their computers!
