Ok. I live in a family split in half. Me and my father are Mac people. My mom and sister swear by those other things(a.k.a. PC's) and my brother is in the middle. So here is the thing. I want to set up a wireless network in my house that will consist of two iBook's, three Dell PC's, and an iMac DV(I know the DV can be a base station but it is mine and I am not here for 8 months of year because of college).
We have cable internet access and a router which will run to a slot-loading iMac and the wireless base station. Which brings me to my question/problem. My parents don't want to spend the money for the airport base station so I was wondering if anybody else out there has a wireless base station running PC's and Mac's that costs less then the Airport ($290 or whatever it is) that they can recommend. I've been looking and found some like the Linksys($100) or the XSense but I am not sure if they will run both.
Any comments are appreciated!
Thanks,

My impression has been that any router that supports 802.11b works just fine for PC's and Macs.

as long as they support macs. any web-based configuration router should work on a mac.
also, some wireless routers don't support AppleTalk. in case this is a killer issue for you (probly not), make sure it's explicitly stated that it's supported. i know personally that SMC wireless routers support AppleTalk with their newest firmware (which came out in the last few weeks).

Did some more research and found that the new D-Link 2.4 ghz 22mbps Air Plus base station will suport both Apple and PC, not sure yet if it will support Apple talk but im not really worried about that.

if they (the router/WAP) supports 802.11b
(or .a) they will all play nice together.
I have multiple PCs (and laptops) and Apple laptops in my house and my
Lucent RG works fine.

I bought the SMC7004vwbr at compusa.com for $50 after rebates. It works PERFECTLY.

Yep-that's the way to go: find a box that is "WiFi" or "802.11b" compatible (they're the same thing) with the options and features you want. The SMC7004VWBR vmarks mentioned is a steal at $50, and it is browser-configured, so it'll be a breeze to set up from any computer on your network.
Once you get it set up, you'll want to take all steps necessary to secure your wired/wireless network, but worry about that AFTER you get everybody up and running.
Let us know what you get and your experiences with building this mixed (both wired/wireless and Mac/PC) network.
