AppleTalk doesn't seem to work over Airport on my PowerBook and iBook. The machines are connected over a D-Link 614+ router but don't "see" each other. The PowerBook doesn't even find itself...?
Is there something I can do?
I'm new to all this networking, so excuse me if this doesn't make any sense.

I assume you've enabled AppleTalk on the AirPort interface, and that it is *disabled* on the 'built-in ethernet' connection?
AppleTalk can only be enabled on one interface at a time. It may be that if it's enabled on the ethernet port it's not getting enabled on the AirPort.
Check your network preferences.
If you don't use the built-in ethernet you'll probably do yourself a favor by disabling the port in the Network Port Configurations (under the Show: menu)

Yep, enabled on AirPort and disabled on ethernet. Ethernet is the first entry on the list though, because when I copy large files I want it to do so over the faster ethernet connection. AppleTalk used to work over ethernet before, but never over AirPort.

Almost all non-apple routers DO NOT support Appletalk over wireless. Nothing you can do about it.

Hm, when I manually enter afp://ip: port I can connect to the other computer. Does that means it works?
I just wished, that I could select the other machine from the menu, because the ip changes all the time. Plus, I was hoping to use iChat over rendezvous which doesn't work even if I connect manually.
Any other ideas? Thanks.

So you're trying to simply connect/share with another computer on OS X.2? You don't even need AppleTalk for this. Do you have firewall s/w running? Try turning it off and then connecting. Or configure it to allow file sharing.

I have a similar setup to this guy - iBook and iMac on airport, beige G3 on wired. Does 10.2 have any built-in firewalling that's causing this to happen? I can connect to my beige G3 if I type in the local IP, but I want to be able to browse to see it. I think the Airport base station is doing some sort of firewalling here to prevent my airport computers from seeing the ethernet beige G3. Ideas?
